4-class wheel-throwing workshop with AVD Ceramics
Wheel-Throwing Essentials: 4-Part Workshop
Â
Want to learn how to create iconic moon jars and discover AVD Ceramics artistic process? Known for her clean modern lines inspired by ancient forms, Alex will guide you through the creation of these iconic forms while sharing her unique approach to pottery.Â
This condensed course, led by Alex, is your perfect opportunity to experience the full pottery process in just a few classes. Throughout this immersive introduction to throwing on a potter's wheel, you'll journey through each step from start to finish. In the first two classes, you'll learn the basics of throwing, establishing a strong foundation. The third class will focus on trimming, and decorating your pieces to give them each their unique personalities. In the final class, you'll glaze your creations, adding the finishing touches guided by Alex's expertise.Â
For Alex, creating a vessel is an abstract meditation on the creation of pure shape, and this course will give you a glimpse into her artistic process. Two to three weeks later, your beautifully fired pieces will be ready for you to take home—functional objects with a nod to ancient forms, made to fit seamlessly into everyday life.Â
This is your chance to gain a comprehensive pottery experience in a short amount of time, perfect for those with busy schedules or just starting out.Â

About Alex Vo Duy of AVD Ceramics:
After earning her B.A. in philosophy and a career in biomedical research, Alex left academia to explore the world and create. Alex’s inspiration comes from the simple forms of the utilitarian pottery from her Filipino heritage. For her, creating a vessel is an abstract meditation on the creation of pure shape. Her
work is also deeply informed by the rich history and science of clay. Alex makes functional objects and sculptural forms with clean modern lines and a nod to ancient forms. Her goal as an artist is to make beautiful objects that make sense in everyday life.
